EastEnders' Danny Dyer makes shock return to Albert Square after Linda Carter proved Mick's innocence

Mick's wife Linda, played by Kellie Bright, managed to get a confession from evil Stuart Highway during last Thursday's episode of the BBC One soap, proving her husband's innocence.

Throughout tonight's episode, the desperate landlady worried about whether or not Mick would be released – getting the shock of her life when she found him sitting in the Queen Vic store room.

However, it wasn't the romantic reunion that fans had hoped for, with Mick looking stony-faced after Linda pretended to believe Stuart over him in her bid to get a confession out of him.

Unaware that it was all part of an elaborate plan, Mick genuinely believed that Linda had abandoned him for his nemesis – with Linda even getting intimate with Stuart as she tried to get evidence of the truth.

Still, viewers were delighted to see Mick out of prison – and took to social media to share their reactions.

One wrote: "I genuinely screamed at my television when seeing Mick back on the screen and I haven't screamed that high pitch at EastEnders for months."

Another added: "Great to have the geezer @MrDDyer back on our TV screens – now EastEnders may not be so dull."

A third tweeted: "Danny Dyer  only has to appear for a few seconds at the end and he makes it the best ep in ages."

The Sun Online revealed earlier this week that the Carters will be at the forefront of the soap's Christmas episodes, with a spokeswoman for the show teasing Mick's violent revenge on Stuart.

The rep said: "Mick Carter is finally reunited with his beloved Linda but with revenge on his mind, Christmas will be anything but peaceful for the Carters."

Linda has spent the past few weeks lulling Stuart into a false sense of security as she desperately tried to get him to confess the truth after he set Mick up for attempted murder.

Playing a long game, the landlady cut Mick off and started divorce proceedings – letting Stuart think that she was starting to fall for him.

However, it all came to a head during last week's stunning two-hander episode, where Linda was attacked by the evil character in her bid to get a recorded confession.
