EastEnders confirms DI Thompson is actually alive despite Stuart 'murdering' him

EastEnders has confirmed that — in spite of Stuart Highway (Ricky Champ) having admitted to murdering DI Thompson (Phillip Wright) — the bent copper is actually, well, alive.

No, he has not returned from the dead — although we wouldn’t put that past him given how relentless he is in making Callum Highway’s (Tony Clay) life a misery — but rather the whole thing is some big misunderstanding.

‘He’s down stairs in the fridges,’ Stuart revealed during Tuesday’s episode, confirming that he’d ‘killed’ Thompson. ‘I burned his clothes in the allotment.’

Rainie (Tanya Franks) was horrified at first, but she affirmed that she and Stuart are ‘in this together’, before revealing that she is proud of him regarding the ‘dead man in our fridge’.

The electricity and chemistry was on display, and the pair were unable to resist one another, as they peeled off each other’s clothes and headed for the bedroom.

In tonight’s episode, they prepared to dispose of Thompson via a fake funeral service, but when they got distracted by Callum, they learned from the young copper that Thompson had been spotted the previous day.

They raced back to the funeral parlour, and after checking the coffin, they came to realise that Thompson escaped!

Yes, Stuart hadn’t checked the coffin to see if the detective was definitely dead, and therefore he must’ve ran off at a later moment in time!

What does this mean for Stuart?

EastEnders continues Friday December 18 at 8:30pm on BBC One.
