'Dexter': Jennifer Carpenter Reacts to Creepy Season 9 Teaser: 'What a Psycho'

A new teaser trailer for the Dexter revival has left some people feeling seriously disturbed. Dexter Morgan previously seemed to be on the up and up, quelling his urge to kill and starting over in life. But at some point over the years, he had a misstep and started killing again, as evidenced by the new teaser trailer. The clip generated plenty of reactions on social media, including from Dexter alum Jennifer Carpenter.

If you haven’t seen it, the teaser trailer opens with a view of the outside of Dexter’s cabin, where he moved in the original series finale. The camera then pulls back to show Dexter’s reflection in the window along with a body in the background. Nina Simone’s “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” plays as Dexter turns to smile at the camera.

“is it me? or the song fits perfectly with this little tease😇 i’m ready for fall!!” one fan wrote in the comment section, referencing the release date for the revival.

“That smile from dexter is so reassuring! Like he never left. This is gonna be sick,” another fan wrote.

A third chimed in saying, “The fact that showtime is coming back to fix the mistakes for the fans of the show is amazing. Welcome back Dexter Morgan.”

How Jennifer Carpenter reacted to the ‘Dexter’ teaser trailer

For her part, Carpenter reacted to the clip on Instagram. Reposting it to her account, she wrote, “What a psycho. #dexter did you spot his victim squirming??? #watchclosely what-haa-AGHHH!!!”

In the comment section, many fans shared their hopes for the revival, which comes nearly a decade after the end of the original series, including that Carpenter will return to the series.

From its start in 2006 to its 2013 conclusion, Carpenter played Debra Morgan, the sister to the main character. While she died in the final season, some think she might return to the show as the voice in Dexter’s head, just like Harry was.

As of writing, Carpenter has not commented on whether she’s involved in the revival, and her representatives did not respond to our requests for comment. But fans are convinced she’ll show up, pointing to many of her Instagram posts as “proof.” In one now-deleted post, Carpenter was reportedly in Massachusetts, where the revival is being filmed. But she didn’t comment on speculation that she was there for the show.

So far, Michael C. Hall (Dexter Morgan) is the only original actor attached to the series, but there are plenty of new Dexter cast members, including Clancy Brown, who will play villain Kurt Caldwell. “Powerful, generous, loved by everyone — he’s a true man of the people. If he’s got your back, consider yourself blessed. But should you cross Kurt, or hurt anyone that he cares for, God help you,” his character description reads (via TV Line).”

Dexter will return to TV in fall 2021. Stay tuned to Showbiz Cheat Sheet for more details as they become available.
