Death In Paradise: Ardal O’Hanlon reveals real reason he quit BBC show
DI Jack Mooney (played by Ardal O’Hanlon) will be solving his very last mystery on Saint-Marie in the upcoming series of Death In Paradise. BBC fans will have to wait and see exactly how the lovable detective waves goodbye to the island before his replacement, DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little) steps into his shoes. However, despite enjoying his time on the show, Ardal has confessed why he decided to walk away from the role.
Death In Paradise fans will soon bid farewell to the third detective to have led investigations on the island.
Jack arrived in 2017 after replacing DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) who had slipped into DI Richard Poole’s (Ben Miller) shoes.
During an appearance on Good Morning Britain, actor Ardal explained why he decided to leave the show.
Host Ben Shephard began: “I have to say we’re sitting here now in the depths of winter and it’s raining and it’s cold and it’s rubbish.

“All of us are sitting here thinking, ‘Why would you turn it away?’”
“Well it is but it takes its toll, four summers of the heat and the humidity,” Ardal confessed.
The BBC star revealed being away from his family while filming was tough.
“The mean thing is the absence from home,” Ardal revealed. “Being away from family, they miss me, at least they say that [and] I miss them.”
However, the actor did praise the show but admitted he was looking forward to what the future had in store.
“But it’s been a fantastic adventure I’ve solved 24 murders almost single handedly,” Ardal continued.
“I think you can do enough of a good thing and it’s been a fantastic adventure so let’s see what happens next.”
Elsewhere, Ardal revealed it didn’t take him long to “lose all shame” when it came to stripping off to keep cool on set.

He told What’s On TV: “When you’re working from 7am until 7pm it can get a little hot under the collar. Keeping cool is really important.”
He explained at first he was a little wary to take his clothes off and learnt the hard way why stripping off was essential.
“The best piece of advice I got was to wear as little as possible,” he continued.
“Within a week or two of starting the job I lost all shame and was stripping down between takes!”

He also gave arriving detective Ralf some advice for stepping into his shoes.
“We’ve been in regular contact and I’ve given him general notes, but it’s funny… I remember when I started there was nothing Kris could tell me to prepare for it,” he continued.
“Specific advice doesn’t land until you get there. I mainly told him about things to do in his spare time because Guadeloupe is a magical place. I’m really going to miss it.”
Death in Paradise returns to BBC One on Thursday January at 9pm.
