Davina McCall hits back at trolls over ‘exercise addiction’

Davina McCall has addressed trolls who claim she’s addicted to exercise, after posting her healthy lifestyle regularly on social media.

The 51-year-old presenter has become synonymous with her exercise habits, having released a number of fitness DVDs and also pursuing a career as a personal trainer.

Speaking on Loose Women alongside panellists Janet Street-Porter, Stacey Solomon, Ruth Langsford and Brenda Edwards, Davina spoke out against some of the criticism she faces in the online realm.

Asked about the trolls she endures, Davina replied: ‘I don’t really care. I’d much rather be trolled about doing too much exercise, I think at least that’s a good thing.

‘It will give you a bit of benefit but what I’ve always said is three times a week or nothing,’ Davina said. ‘Like if you don’t do three times a week, you’re never going to get the benefit from exercise. 15 or 20 minutes walk a day might help with your blood pressure but…

‘I completely agree with you, I’m not dissing other people. We were talking about people trolling me about being addicted to exercise, and what I was trying to say was, I don’t think three or four hours a week is addicted. I don’t think for anybody [it is].’

Davina previously spoke to Metro.co.uk about the criticism she faced following a bikini picture showing off her toned physique, with many saying she looked ‘too skinny’.

Hi. It is the beginning of the summer . And this is a ? selfie. And it probably won’t be the last . No apologies. Because I cannot quite believe I am posting pictures of myself in bikinis still ?I get asked all the time how many times I work out a week ??. 3 times minimum … 4 ideally.. 45 mins to an hour . Can’t run at the mo so I do a mixture strength and cardio … i have so much to be grateful for… my kids are number one but right behind them at no 2 is how my fitness journey has made me feel . If I’m groggy, sluggish, negative it always sorts me out … if you are starting … start slow.. set small goals.. achievable goals.. you will get to where you want to be. I did. And if I did. ( after years of yo-yo dieting and binge exercise) You can. #ownyourgoals #fitness #motivation

‘I want to promote health and fitness and that’s why I get slightly irked with people going, “I’m too skinny” because I am really healthy.

‘I mean, I go to the doctors once a year for a little MOT and every year they go, “Bloody hell, you’re amazing.”

‘And in fact, I’ve probably got healthier. Like my cholesterol is better, my blood pressure’s amazing, my BMI is perfect, I’m within the normal range, I’m not at the bottom of the range for all those naysayers. So that bugs me because I’m a very healthy person.’
