'Dancing with the Stars': Why Ree Drummond Doesn't Want to Be on the Show

Although there have been many celebrities who agreed to do Dancing with the Stars, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. It’s a lot of work, there is a risk of doing something embarrassing or even getting hurt! So why doesn’t Ree Drummond want to be on the show? Here is everything you need to know and more.

The Pioneer Woman star tweeted about dreaming she was on Dancing with the Stars, but it wasn’t going very well. “I dreamed I was on Dancing With the Stars and I kept wanting to sew sleeves on the sleeveless dresses they wanted me to wear, only I didn’t know how to use a sewing machine. Good morning!” she tweeted on Jan. 3.

Her fans must have been really excited at the thought of her competing because she followed up the tweet with a declaration. She tweeted, “Oh man, I love you guys but Dancing With the Stars is not in the cards for me, as I’m afraid there is no such thing as a multicolored floral ballroom gown with relaxed 3/4 sleeves and a non-fitted waist. Also pretty sure jeans aren’t allowed. Thank you for your cooperation.”

Celebrities do have to get used to ballroom dancing clothes to do the show

Ree Drummond is probably well aware by now that the dancing costumes all come in a certain style, and the show hardly deviates from it. One of the costume designers of the show, Steven Lee revealed to TV Insider that some of the stars do complain about them but have to get used to it.

“Some of the guys aren’t used to the glitz and rhinestone style of ballroom and Latin dancing,” explained Lee. “The sports guys are usually surprisingly easy – it depends on who you get, but you have to get them used to the whole dance world. At some point, they want to win that Mirrorball Trophy so they have to play the game, but in the beginning, I have to break them in a little bit.”

When it comes to women there have been some outfits with sleeves, but their costumes typically have less material, in general, to make it easier for them to move.

Fans can buy the Dancing with the Stars costumes

Most of the costumes from Dancing with the Stars get used only once. So where do they go after that? Well, the good news is that they might end up in the hands of fans of the show.

According to NOLA.com, Randall Christensen is a costume designer for the show and his company sells the costumes. Fans should expect to dish out from anything between $1,500 to $3,000 for a costume. Some of the dancers decide to buy the costumes themselves. Christensen revealed that Shawn Johnson, Kristi Yamaguchi, and more stars have bought their own costumes.

Ree Drummond fans might be disappointed that they’ll never see her on the show. But she’s hardly the only star who has turned down the show privately or publicly.
