Dancing On Ice's Trisha Goddard revealed as last contestant in 2020 line-up as she admits she signed up to the show after meeting a pro skater 'while drunk'
DANCING On Ice has confirmed Trisha Goddard is the final contestant to join the 2020 line-up as she admitted she signed up after meeting one of the professionals while drunk.
Trisha, 61, appeared on Good Morning Britain today and stunned viewers with her youthful looks, after The Sun revealed she'd been snapped up by the skating show.
The chat show host walked into the studio in a cloud of smoke and then chatted to presenters Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid about why she decided to take her chances on the ice.
She said: "It's a very funny story as to why I signed up.
"I was invited to soiree in New York and there was one American guy there, he said 'I was a pro on Dancing On Ice' and I wanted to skill up.
"I roller blade, so I'm arranging that with him after a few bevvies, and I take a selfie with him saying 'I'd do DOI with this guy!'
"The next morning I get a call asking me to do it, the hangover hadn't even cleared."
The 61-year-old TV veteran signed on the dotted line last week after being in talks for months.
Trisha joins a whole host of other big name stars, including Love Island's Maura Higgins and telly veteran Michael Barrymore.
Though she's one of the older contestants, Trisha made it clear that she is more than capable on the ice.
She said: "I like physical activity every day. I bike ride, I weight train, I learnt to ski at 37, how to roller blade at 42, and running at 42. And I'm 62 in December."
Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan couldn't believe Trisha's age, and asked her the secret to her youthful looks.
After a pause, she replied: "Chemotherapy. It has kept me alive and on this earth."
The chat show queen overhauled her lifestyle to help beat cancer.
Patricia was born in London in 1957 before moving to Tanzania for part of her childhood.
She made a move from travel writing to broadcasting before hosting her popular chat show Trisha, which first aired on ITV and then on Channel 5 between 1998 until 2009.
Her younger sister – who had schizophrenia – died from complications which arose from self-inflicted injuries leading to the TV host battling depression.
The chat show star, who is mother to Billie, 27, and Madison, 22, is now living in Connecticut after moving to America in 2010.
In 2012 Trisha took her show to the US but it was cancelled after two series.
The mother-of-two was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and she underwent chemotherapy while hosting her show.
Speaking about her battle with cancer in 2017, Trisha explained to the Sunday Mirror: “I never imagined I’d still be alive now, let alone make it to see 60. I can’t even think about what turning 60 actually means.
"I’m just b****y glad I’m still alive. And I can’t say the cancer won’t ever come back – I don’t know that, but I’ll do everything I can to help my health."
