BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker was joined by his co-star Sally Nugent on Monday morning where they looked back on his performance over the weekend. Week eight saw Dan and partner Nadiya Bychkova perform the American Smooth and receive their highest score since being in the competition. However, Dan revealed he only managed to get eight hours of training after sustaining a small injury to his toe.

Praising Dan’s performance, Sally complimented: “You looked cool as a cucumber, [but] injury, you had a little bit of an injury?”

Dan explained: “I’m fine, I mean I hardly trained last week, I had eight hours of training because I couldn’t put my toe down on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

“So trained on Thursday and it was great, and I can I just quickly clarify something, I had quite a few pain killers I said on Saturday.

“I think I said that dancing should be about people who haven’t danced before, Strictly, what I meant to say is it shouldn’t exclude people who have not danced before.

“There are some brilliant people on that programme, there’s so many talented dancers and they’re fantastic to watch.

“As a Strictly fan I love watching people who are brilliant and are fantastic from day one, but I also think there is room in the programme for people who are learning.”
