‘Criminal Minds’ Will End After Season 15: It’s Going to Be ‘Epic’

AceShowbiz -It’s both good and bad news for “Criminal Minds“. Fans of the long-running CBS show will have to get ready “for a momentous ride” as the series has been renewed for season 15, which will also serve as its final season.

“Hey, #CriminalMinds fans–we’ve got big news. First, mark your calendar for the Season 14 finale, Feb 6 at 10/9c,” the official Twitter account of the series announced on Thursday, January 10. “Next, get ready for a momentous ride: Season 15 will be our epic final season.”

The upcoming final season will have 10 episodes which are set to air in the 2019-20 broadcast season.

“It is the quintessential CBS hit. We are so proud to have aired it,” Amy Reisenbach, CBS’ EVP current programs, said to Deadline. “It speaks to everything we do best, which is air quality television. It’s been successful not only on air but online, in syndication, internationally for ABC (Studios).”

It’s reported that the decision to wrap the stories up in season 15 was made in late fall. It was when “Criminal Minds” longtime executive producer/showrunner Erica Messer was breaking the stories for the final episodes of season 14, asking advice regarding whether or not she has to make the ending a season finale with cliffhanger(s) or just make it a series finale.

“We wanted to make sure Erica had the time and ability to write a season [14] finale that honors the characters and the fans,” Reisenbach shared. “We discussed wanting to keep the show in continuous production so 10 felt like the right number for us to roll straight into and give Erica enough episodes to end the series the way she wanted to.”

The final season reportedly will be more serialized than the procedural drama is known for. The site further states that it will include a two-part season opener as well as a major confession. In addition, fans will see a BAU member in jeopardy.

Messer also teased that a slew of bad guys who made appearance throughout the series would make a return. “We have one in the works right now who’s a very memorable villain, but I don’t want to say too much if it doesn’t work out with casting,” said Messer.
