Corrie star Sally Dynevor hopes to work on ‘brilliant’ soap until she’s 80

Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor wants to do a Bill Roache – and stay in the show until she is 80.

The actress, who has played Sally Webster for 34 years, says she hopes she will still be appearing when the ITV soap which turns 60 on December 9 celebrates its 80th anniversary.

Should Sally, 57, remain on the cobbles until the soap celebrates 80 years on the air, she would be 82.

Bill, who appeared in the first episode in 1960, is now 88 and still playing Ken Barlow.

Sally said: "I hope I'm in the show to celebrate it's 70th and 80th anniversaries – that would be great.

"It's been a part of my life since I was a little girl.

"You'd get home from school, have your tea and watch Corrie, so I've been watching it for as long as I can remember.

"Of course it's changed over the years and evolved into what it is now, which is brilliant.

"It's moved with the times I'm so proud of it and so proud to be part of it.

"I definitely want to be here when I'm 80.

"I have the same enthusiasm as I did when I first started 34 years ago.

"I pick up scripts and I go, 'Oh, I can't wait to do that!' and 'I'm really looking forward to working with this person'.

"I walk into the building and I know everyone and I just feel safe and happy and fulfilled.

"If I left Corrie what would I get? Tiny little parts in other things. I'm very happy here.''

Sally said older stars like Bill, Barbara Knox, 87, who plays Rita Tanner and Sue Nicholls, 77, who is Audrey Roberts, inspired her and the rest of the cast.

"They know their lines back to front, they come on set and they're brilliant,'' she said.

"They're using their brains, they're engaged, they know about young people and what's going on.''
