Corrie Sam Blakeman star Jude Riordan announces ‘that’s a wrap’ on his character

Coronation Street actor Jude Riordan, who plays youngster Sam Blakeman on the cobbles, has announced a ‘wrap’ on his character.

Jude – who is just 10 years old – has stolen the hearts of the nation since he first appeared as Nick Tilsley’s long lost son Sam last year, and has scooped numerous soap awards for his emotional portrayal.

Back in September, he became the youngest ever winner of a National Television Award, before going on to scoop the Best Newcomer gong at the Inside Soap Awards in November

And earlier this month he even scooped an award from his hometown – a Pride of St Helens award.

Most recently, Sam lost his mother Natasha in a fatal shooting, which saw him go mute as he attempted to cope with his grief after seeing her body in the funeral home and bidding her an emotional goodbye.

And for such a young lad, Sam has had plenty to deal with, including the death of his baby step-brother Oliver. But there have been plenty of heartwarming moments too, as Sam bonded with undertaker George over their love of astronomy and taught Nick plenty about science.

But now Jude has taken to his Instagram to announce: "That’s a wrap!" on Sam.

The star posed with a backdrop of typical Corrie red-bricks and a Coronation Street sign with his arms spread wide as he bade farewell to the studio – at least for now.

The young actor captioned the snap: "And that’s a WRAP on Sam Blakeman for 2021! Thank you everyone for supporting me. I’ve had the best year of my life."

But fans will be pleased to know that Jude isn’t going far, and his character will be returning to Corrie in 2022.

He continued: "I’ll be back on them cobbles in January. #OverAndOut."

Jude’s co-stars and fans soon hopped into the comments section to congratulate him on his hard work so far, with Sally Carman – who plays Abi Webster – commenting: "Happy Christmas JR! See you in the New Year!"

Jude replied to her: "See you in January Sally – Happy Christmas!"

Rachel Leskovac, who played Sam’s mum Natasha, penned: "Well done on all your very hard work Jude – see you soon!"

As another fan fretted: "Thought he was leaving for a second!"

"Have a good Christmas and we’ll see you in the new year!" another echoed.
