Corrie dominates TV Choice Awards 2020 as EastEnders fail to win a single gong

Coronation Street bosses will be rejoicing tonight after winning big at the 2020 TV Choice Awards.

The hit ITV soap cleaned up on Tuesday night, taking home three of the biggest awards of the night.

As well as taking home the Best Soap award, Coronation Street bagged the Best Actress and Best Actor gongs.

Jack P Shepherd, who has played David Platt on the series since 2000, won his first Best Actor award.

Meanwhile, Shelley King took home the Best Actress Award for her portrayal of Yasmeen Nazir.

Keen not to let the ongoing coronavirus pandemic totally call off one of the biggest nights in TV, this year's ceremony was held online.

While pre-recorded thank you speeches were aired during the show, the evening was simply held in virtual form with the 35-minute show being aired via TV Choice's website.

Corrie's biggest rival EastEnders failed to take home a single award during the digital evening.

Elsewhere, The Great British Bake Off managed to beat off competition from Britain's Got Talent and Strictly Come Dancing in winning the Best Talent Show gong.

Meanwhile, Best Entertainment Show was won by national treasures Ant and Dec.

The TV duo picked up the award for Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway.

The series was the first time Ant McPartlin had returned to work in over a year after his drink-drive crash.

While the planned live finale was axed to due the pandemic, Ant and Dec kept the nation smiling by recording the final editions of the show from the homes.

Ant and Dec had two reasons to celebrate after I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! won the award for Best Reality TV Show.
