She’s known for her role as Eileen Grimshaw on Coronation Street, but now Sue Cleaver is stepping into a brand new role in Sister Act The Musical.

The 60-year-old will be playing head nun Mother Superior in the UK and Ireland tour of the hit stage show.

In a first-look picture of her new look, Sue looks unrecognisable as she dons the iconic nun outfit.

Speaking of her exciting new project, the ITV star said: “I’m thrilled to be stepping into the habit and joining the incredible company of Sister Act on tour.

“It’s been over 30 years since I’ve been on stage, but theatre has always been my first love.

“A chance to take on a role feels like heaven,” she gushed.

The soap favourite will reportedly be taking a short break from Coronation Street for her theatre run, according to Digital Spy.

Sue’s Coronation Street co-stars rushed to comment on their pal’s new hiring, with Charlie Condou saying: “I can’t wait for this!!!!”

Ryan Thomas, who previously played Sue’s on-screen son Jason Grimshaw asked: “Can I come.”

Her followers also rushed to comment on the news as she shared the exciting update with her £150,000 followers on Instagram.

One user wrote: “Wow that is absolutely fantastic, incredible and amazing that is Sue that you are in the musical Sister Act. That’s amazing.”

Another fan said: “Wow..!! That’s incredible. Now I’m seriously excited to come and see it again xx.” (sic)

Soap star Sue is officially joining the cast on March 14, with the first show taking place at the Theatre Royal in Brighton.

Following her big debut in Brighton, the mum-of-one will be touring the country and performing in Manchester, Belfast, Cork, Glasgow, York and Birmingham.

She will be joined on stage by fellow actors Landi Oshinowo, Alfie Parker and Ian Gareth-Jones.

Sue has played her role of Eileen on the cobbles for 20 years, after making her debut in 2000.
