Coronation Street’s Sally Ann Matthews takes a swipe at soap co-stars who make fans pay for birthday messages

CORONATION Street actress Sally Ann Matthews has slammed her co-stars for charging fans in exchange for a video birthday message.

Sally's swipe comes after several Corrie stars signed up to money-making websites including Cameo and Celeb VM during lockdown.

Fans of the show can now buy personalised clips from stars including Simon Gregson, Lisa George and Daniel Brocklebank for 30 quid.

But taking to Twitter, Sally – who plays Jenny Bradley – told a fan to write to the Corrie set if he ever wanted an autograph from a fan.

In a thinly-veiled dig, she then also warned people that they 'should never pay' for autographs or video messages.

Sally, 49, told the Corrie viewer: "Write to us at Trafford Wharf Road. We do them for free! You should never pay for an autograph (or a video message come to that) x."

Chiming in, another fan replied to the thread, saying: "Exactly how it should be. Making cash from birthday messages is another issue for me. Don't get me started!"

Sally replied: "Oh I hear ya x."

Corrie newcomer Tony Maudsley, who has also starred in Benidorm, also showed where he stands on the issue, replying to Sally: "Hear hear!"

Coronation Street fans can buy personalised video messages from William Roache, Chris Gascoyne and Rula Lenska on Celeb VM.

On rival website Cameo, Ryan Clayton, who has had two brief stints playing Josh Tucker, in the soap charges just £19 for a birthday message

Antony Cotton – who plays Sean Tully in Corrie – also flogs videos on Cameo, but charges a little more at £30 per recording.
