Coronation Street's Nicholas Cochrane keen for Andy McDonald return

Coronation Street’s Nicholas Cochrane would be keen to return to the cobbles as Andy McDonald

The 46-year-old was on our screens for around eight years, starring as Steve’s (Simon Gregson) brother, before departing in 1997 – with his character heading off to Spain.

While he has returned for the odd cameo, Nicholas has got his eyes on a prominent return to Weatherfield.

But, while he wants to reprise his role – he wants the plot to be worth it, or to just draw a line under his character for good.

‘It would be good if the boys got back in touch and Andy ends up back in Weatherfield,’ the Mirror states he said.

‘It would be good if Steve needed an organ [transplant] or there were some reason why one of us stays and one goes.

‘That would be best for me … it would be a good storyline.’

We reckon Steve McDonald would definitely be on board…

During an appearance on the Distinct Nostalgia podcast, he also added that he regrets not ‘pushing’ his character further at the time.

Well, there’s always time to fix that…

Andy’s presence is definitely needed in Weatherfield right now, as his brother is facing a tough time.

Viewers watched on as Oliver – the son Steve shares with Leanne Tilsley- was diagnosed with an incurable form of mitochondrial disease.

The pair were left in shock as the doctor confirmed his condition, with Leanne desperate for a second opinion.

Actress Jane Danson opened up about the poignant plot, explaining: ’When they get the diagnosis it’s just so hard for them to get their heads round.

‘This has come out of nowhere, a few weeks ago Oliver was fine and developing like any other three year old, now he seems to be regressing.

‘When they’re told about mitochondrial disease that’s when it really hits home.

‘Leanne wants a second opinion, other people try to point out they’ve had that from the hospital but she won’t take no for an answer, she wants to try a different hospital.’
