Coronation Street: Who was Frank Foster on Coronation Street?

ITV soap Coronation Street saw Carla Connor (played by Alison King) disappearing from the Cobbles last week. The businesswoman’s mental health left fans concerned as she grew incredibly paranoid and delusional following the roof collapse. Her boyfriend Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) has been searching for her to no avail.

Who was Frank Foster on Coronation Street?

Many ITV fans have been trying to figure out what could have happened to Carla but also asking questions about her old associate Frank Foster (Andrew Lancel).

The evil character was on the soap for a year between 2011 and 2012 and was the co-owner of Underworld.

He spent most of his time on Coronation Street scheming and manipulating other characters.

As Corrie fans will remember, the evil Frank raped Carla in a harrowing soap storyline.

DID CARLA CONNOR KILL RANA HABEEB?

They were previously in a relationship but Carla decided to break up with him the day before their wedding because she was suspicious of all his dodgy dealing.

After breaking up with him and confessing to her love for Peter, he raped her and then fled.

Although the case went to court, Frank was found not guilty and evaded justice.

On top of that, photographs were shown to the court of Carla and Peter kissing, much to the shock of his wife Leanne (Jane Danson) which revealed her husband had been unfaithful.

The rape trial was big storyline at the time with the cast even filming two versions with different outcomes with only one being aired.

WHERE IS CARLA CONNOR?

The multiple outcomes meant that even the cast didn’t know which was the real ending of the plot.

King explained to the Daily Mail: “We filmed two versions. I think two different sides came out – a happy version and sad version – and it was very confusing for us all but we had to do that so that nobody knew.

“The trial scenes have been really tough and stretched me as an actress and I thank Corrie for that.

“On the other hand, it’s made me aware that it happens more than we know and that’s a sad thing.”

Following the court case, Frank also tried to con Carla out of her share of the factory but his plans were ultimately exposed.

Frank finally met an end when justice was dished out by the soap gods and he was killed by his own mother Anne Foster (Gwen Taylor) back in 2012.

Speaking on the official Coronation Street site at the time, she said: “It has been wonderful to be part of such a fantastic storyline but so difficult trying to keep the secret for so long.

“It is weeks since we filmed the scenes where Anne confessed to Sally and I haven’t told a soul.

“The morning after Frank was murdered I arrived back at the airport from a trip to Ireland and suddenly everyone was asking me who killed him.”

She continued: “It is such a relief that it is all finally out in the open now and I am not worried that I will give the game away,”

“It will be interesting to see how people will react now they know it was me!”

Coronation Street airs on ITV tonight at 7.30pm & 8.30pm
