Coronation Street actor Colson Smith has revealed his sadness to not be starring in the main festive plot on the soap this year. The Weatherfield star will be featuring in episodes leading up to Christmas and he teased a thrilling development on the cobbles in December. The beloved ITV star also hinted at a potentially hilarious moment with veteran actor William Roache too.

Colson expressed his regret at missing out on a juicy festive plot while on the red carpet of the TV Choice awards.

He told the Daily Star about his character Craig Tinker: “We’re in a play. Ken’s written a play.”

When the young star was pressed by the publication on what will be the headline event in Weatherfield he remained tight-lipped.

However, he admitted: “It’s one of the storylines where when you hear it’s happening you hope you’re in it. I was gutted that I wasn’t in it.”

The star continued: “Fans can expect more struggles for Craig and Faye.

“For a young couple they go through an awful lot but it’s more menopause and how their relationship adapts.”

Alongside Ellie Leach, he has told the groundbreaking story of Faye Windass’ early menopause diagnosis.

During an appearance on Loose Women, Ellie opened up on the importance of telling Faye’s story.

She explained: “But obviously it’s always good to be able to tell a story, whatever you get.

“So yeah, I was shocked because I didn’t really realise that it happened to women so young.

“But I think that’s why it’s good because not a lot of people know about it, so it’s good to be able to show that this happens and make sure everyone knows about it.”

The experience of going through menopause in a character’s early 20s has not been previously highlighted in soap land.

Ellie shared her surprise at the plot, which has had a huge impact on Faye and Craig’s relationship.

She added: “Obviously there are all types of stuff that happens – you can get so many symptoms.

“I think the hardest one for me is kind of the mood swings because it’s going from 0 to 100 so quickly.

“And obviously I don’t really go through that in my life.”

Colson has also spoken candidly on his battle with his body image to running magazine Runners’ World.

He revealed: “The red tops were writing about me weekly as a kind of ‘he’s done it’ story, but that doesn’t feel like me.

“That fat kid is the kid that I’ve looked at every day in the mirror and I still see him now.

“It’s a battle I’m probably going to carry with me for the rest of my life.”

Coronation Street airs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV and ITVX
