Daniel Osbourne (played by Rob Mallard) has been pretty isolated since his beloved wife Sinead (Katie McGlynn) died after a tragic battle with cancer leaving him alone with baby Bertie. He has struggled to get his life in order on Coronation Street and even had a fling with Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon), but in upcoming scenes Daniel could be ready to leave the cobbles for good leaving Bertie behind.

Sinead died last October after a year-long battle with cervical cancer after trying lots of different treatments in the hopes of seeing Bertie grow up.

The tragic death came just days after she learnt there was an attraction between Daniel and Bethany and that the two had kissed whilst she sat and suffered.

After Sinead’s death, Daniel struggled to commit to Bethany, but after months of pursuing him, the grieving father finally struck up a relationship with her.

Of course, it didn’t work out, as the two wanted different things but other things came into play as their real-lives started leaking into their bubble.

Earlier this year, little Bertie suddenly fell incredibly poorly after Daniel revealed he couldn’t bear to see him get his baby vaccinations.

Bertie contracted measles, which sent Daniel over the edge all the other guilt he has been feeling over the last year.

But, could Daniel give up Bertie for good in a way of running away from all of his demons?

Bethany left the cobbles for good earlier this year to pursue a writing career, but who does Daniel really have to support him?

Rob Mallard has now opened up about what’s to come for the young man, but it could have a devastating impact on his immediate family.

He explained: “Daniel has been in Scotland, at a retreat.

“Now that he has come back he thinks that he has to be seen to have moved on so when he is on the street or with his family, he is acting as though it has been beneficial and that he has found a way to move forward.

“The reality is that behind closed doors, when he is in his flat, he has not moved on at all.”

“It (Sinead’s death) has become the central part of his character.

“Something like that happening to him that young has determined the rest of his life.

“I don’t think he will ever get over his loss, I think it will always be there.”

In upcoming scenes, Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) will offer to spend his birthday with Daniel and Bertie.

But, when Adam cancels, Daniel will be left devastated and start talking to a framed photo of his late wife.

It seems yet another woman will be introduced to Daniel though when Adam tries to get him out of the house to meet new people.

Daniel will agree to go to a drinks reception in town but immediately feel out of place, until he meets a guest called Nicky.

The two will hit it off and look as if they could be about to spend the night together, but will he continue making the same mistakes?

Or will he really be forced to leave the cobbles for good leaving Bertie without either of his parents?

Coronation Street airs on ITV Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm.
