Coronation Street spoilers have revealed Rita, played by Barbara Knox, will suffer a fall while she's home alone, leaving her pinned down under a Christmas tree.
The plotline has been written by ITV bosses to highlight loneliness in the elderly community, according to The Sun.
In upcoming scenes, the beloved Corrie star will take a fall at home while trying to decorate her tree by herself.
Trapped beneath the heavy festive decorations, Rita will have to wait several days before anyone comes to help her.

A source told the publication: ”Dev puts up the Christmas tree for Rita but doesn't have time to sort the fairy lights.
"She ends up putting the lights on herself but when switching them on she trips and falls, pulling the tree on top of her."
They added: "Spending Christmas alone is a scenario many OAPs may find themselves in a few weeks."
