In a special Boxing Day episode, Carla Barlow (Alison King) pushes Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) to open up and the pair eventually realise they may be better apart.

As Peter heads out of the flat with his holdall, closely followed by Carla, he’s touched and surprised to find the whole family waiting outside.

Peter exchanges emotional farewells with each of them and promises Ken Barlow (William Roache) that he’ll keep in touch.

Ed is overwhelmed with guilt on Christmas Day as he receives a watch inscribed with ‘World’s Best Dad’. When the truth comes out, the Bailey family are horrified to learn of the extent of Ed’s gambling.

Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell) wants Ed gone, while Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) is furious with her boyfriend Joel Deering (Calum Lill) and uncle Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) who both knew about her dad’s addiction.

Just as Carla comes to terms with Peter leaving, Bobby (Jack Carroll), Rob Donovan’s son, arrives on the street looking for her. Carla agrees that her nephew, Bobby can stay for a few weeks, only if he plays by her rules.

Jenny Bradley (Sally Ann Matthews) and Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) receive the news that the Rovers Return Inn is officially theirs and they can reopen in time for New Year’s Eve. Jenny urges Daisy to go and find Daniel Osborne (Rob Mallard) and patch things up with a New Year’s kiss.

Meanwhile, Daniel bumps into Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) in the street and invites her back to his flat.

After bumping into each other at the bistro, Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) and Adam Barlow (Samuel Robertson) admit to each other that neither have a date for New Year’s Eve – so spend the evening together sipping champagne. Could there still be a spark between them?

What they don't know is that Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths) has returns and watches on as Adam and Sarah part ways on the cobbles.

When Sarah turns the corner, Adam heads for the office but ends up kidnapped in the back of a van.

Bethany goes to see the Platts and Sarah is thrilled to see her daughter, but the news spreads of her night with Daniel and Bethany is met with disapproval from Gail Platt (Helen Worth) and David Platt (Jack P Shepherd).

Damon makes himself known and demands his investment money back from Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson). Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) then arrives to question Damon about Adam’s kidnap – but Sarah provides Damon with an alibi.

However Damon isn’t on the street for long as a surprise phone call from his brother Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor) takes him to see him in prison.

Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) continues to point the finger at Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) for the damage on the Porsche she took for a joyride with Roy Cropper (David Neilson).

Cassie calls the owner of the car before Abi and Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) can fix the damage. When the owner arrives, he’s unimpressed to spot the damage to the paintwork.

Roy tells Cassie to come clean, but just as she goes to confess, Kevin offers Cassie a full-time job at the garage.

Also, Paul has an accident and falls out of his wheelchair at home.
