Chris Evans jokes James Martin saved his marriage during his honeymoon

The Virgin Radio Breakfast Show DJ, 52, revealed he's indebted to the TV chef, 46, for coming to his aid when the couple lost their passports shortly before heading off on a safari.

He told his listeners this morning: "James saved my marriage, well you saved my honeymoon!'

The tale previously choked Chris up as he recalled the moment James treated the newlyweds to a slap up meal as a tasty alternative to wildlife watching in Africa.

He said: "My wife and I had just got married we were supposed to go on our honeymoon and safari and we lost our passports. We were devastated. She never loses anything."

A friend then called and told Chris that James was down in the New Forest doing a catering event at a lavish manor house and suggested he popped down.

Chris continued: "My friend said: 'Go and get Tash a dress and drive to the New Forest, James will cook you a special meal'."

And Chris was taken aback by the amazing length James went to for the couple, revealing: "We had a few drinks in the bar.

"At half seven he pitches up and is like, 'Hi guys, I've got dinner ready,' and he even got these menus shaped up like passports and we had this lovely seven-course meal."

Chris wed pro golfer Natasha in 2007 and the pair have two sons, Eli, six, and Noah, 10.

James is once again helping his pal out later this year by performing at his beloved CarFest, although he has played down his music ability.

He said: "I can play two songs and 20 per cent of another one."

James has introduced a musical element to his live cooking show, learning the guitar especially for the UK road trip.

Joining Chris and James on today's early morning show was comedian Shappi Khorsandi, 45.

The I'm A Celeb star revealed she's madly in love with her new man, joking: "I should have stopped bonking comedics long ago."
