Chris Evans jokes about asking James Martin for advice on leaving the BBC ahead of Virgin Radio move

Appearing on the top TV chef's show James Martin's Saturday Morning today, the Radio 2 DJ joked that he turned to his long-time friend for help.

James left the BBC's Saturday Kitchen back in 2016 and has since landed a new show on ITV.

Laughing that he had become Chris' career advisor, he quipped: "I feel like I'm [Chris'] work guru. He's always like, 'What do you think of this? What do you think of that?'"

Chris then added: "I came in for lessons about how to leave the BBC."

James then shot the camera a playfully unimpressed look, before Chris laughed at producers ranting at them down their earpiece.

Chris also got a little choked up on the show when he recalled the time James stepped in to save the TV presenter and his wife Natasha Shishmanian after a honeymoon disaster.

He dished: "My wife and I had just got married we were supposed to go on our honeymoon and safari and we lost our passports. We were devastated. She never loses anything."

A friend then called and told Chris that James was down in the New Forest doing a catering event at a lavish manor house and suggested he popped down.

Chris continued: "My friend said: 'Go and get Tash a dress and drive to the New Forest, James will cook you a special meal'."

And Chris was taken aback by the amazing length James went to for the couple, revealing: "We had a few drinks in the bar.

"At half seven he pitches up and is like, 'Hi guys, I've got dinner ready,' and he even got these menus shaped up like passports and we had this lovely seven-course meal."

Chris then got a little emotional as he recounted the cute story, with James grinning: "That story always chokes him up."
