Chris Evans Hasn’t Ruled Out Playing Captain America In The Future
Captain America’s MCU story arc seemingly came to an end this year, but Chris Evans hasn’t ruled out a return to the universe in the future.
Avengers: Endgame brought with it a lot of incredible cinematic moments earlier this year. The culmination of a decade worth of movies wound up becoming the highest-grossing movie of all time at the box office. That meant millions of us around the world fighting back tears as we watched a few of our favorite heroes’ story arcs come to very permanent ends.
Look away now to avoid spoilers but seriously, how have you not seen Endgame by this point? The first heartbreaking moment came when Black Widow sacrificed herself for the soul stone. Later in the movie, Iron Man met his demise in order to permanently erase Thanos from existence. Last but not least, Captain America went back in time and decided to stay there, meaning he was super old by the end of the movie.
Of the three heroes mentioned above, we already know we’ll be seeing Black Widow again. However, that will only be in prequel form when a movie bearing her name is released in May 2020. As for Cap and Iron Man, the assumption is that the pair of Avengers is gone forever. However, Chris Evans, the man behind the Captain’s shield, has refused to rule out donning the stars and stripes one more time.
Evans admitted as much during an interview for Variety with his Endgame co-star, Scarlett Johansson. “You never say never. I love the character. I don’t know,” Evans admitted. “It’s not a hard no, but it’s not an eager yes either,” he added. The actor said it would need to be more than a cash grab, and it would have to be something that furthers the Cap storyline.
Due to the big role time travel played in Endgame, Marvel has left the door open to bringing back characters that have passed on. It needs to tread carefully, though. Bring back every deceased hero and future deaths will cease to mean anything. Plus, bring one hero back but not another, and fans will question why. Perhaps Cap, Black Widow, and Iron Man are best left in the MCU’s past.
