Casualty casts EastEnders star as real life husband Iain's love interest

Lauren Crace has been cast for the Christmas special episodes of Casualty – and she’s playing her husband’s character’s love interest.

Known for playing Ronnie Mitchell’s (Samantha Womack) long-lost daughter Danielle in EastEnders, Lauren will appear in Saturday’s episode as Chrissie – Iain Dean’s (Mike Stevenson) HEMs colleague and someone he’s taken a particular liking to.

Not that Iain will admit that, mind!

Set in 2020, these two episodes look a little different to the ones we’ve seen on our screens recently.

There is discussion of tiers (as in, the tier system that happened over lockdown), the ED staff are struggling to find oxygen tanks, and Iain is still working for HEMS as he didn’t return to Holby until earlier this year.

Written by Barbara Machin, ‘Remember Me’ will see the return of Laura Merriman – the mother of Rosie.

Quick reminder of who Laura and Rosie are as it’ll help make sense of the scenes in the trailer below.

Laura entered the Holby ED during an episode titled Killing Me Softly (2006) with her daughter Rosie, who was looked after by Charlie, Tess and plenty of the other ED staff.

However, it transpired Laura had Munchausen syndrome by proxy, meaning there was actually nothing wrong with Rosie.

But elsewhere, Iain faces life-threatening danger when trying to save a young boy and a van driver trapped on an unstable ledge.
