Big Brother returning to screens this summer to mark 20th anniversary

Big Brother will be returning to screens this summer to celebrate its 20th anniversary, almost two years after it was cancelled by Channel 5.

The show was originally hosted by Davina McCall on Channel 4 from 2000 to 2010 before moving to Channel 5, where it was presented by previous winner Brian Dowling and then Emma Willis.

Davina, 52, will return to front the new series of the show, which is being homed on E4 — although unfortunately for fans it will not be a full series.

The show will be titled Big Brother's Best Shows Ever Show, and will relive the reality show's best moments.

Davina will be joined on the new series by Rylan Clark-Neal — who hosted spin-off show Big Brother's Bit On The Side — and they have both handpicked their favourite episodes of the show during their time in lockdown.

According to The Sun, the series will include classic moments such as Anthony Hutton and Makosi Musambasi's X-rated trip to the hot tub in 2005, and Vanessa Feltz's meltdown in the first celebrity series of the show in 2001.

Davina told the publication of the show's return: "I lived and breathed Big Brother for 11 years.

"Not one week goes by when I don't quote Big Brother in some form. It made me laugh, it made me cry and it taught me to never judge a book by its cover.

"I love the show and can’t wait to share it with a whole new audience."

Rylan, who won the celebrity version of the show in 2013, added: "I'm so excited to be bringing Big Brother back to our lives.

"There will be laughs, tears and drama, but most of all we get to relive some of Big Brother's greatest episodes."

It is hoped that the highlights show will spur Channel 4 bosses to bring Big Brother back for a full series to celebrate its 21st anniversary next year.

Big Brother has shot many reality stars to fame in the past, including Chantelle Houghton, Nikki Grahame, Alison Hammond and the late Jade Goody — who was the subject of a Channel 4 documentary last year.

Davina was seen breaking down in tears on the documentary as she spoke about the show's most famous and controversial star.

"She came fourth but she was the winner," Davina said. "The feeling of real … I can't put it into … I cannot tell you what that feels like."

Davina teared up as she continued: "I felt such enormous joy at Jade's great popularity that night."

As old footage of Jade greeting her adoring public after leaving the Big Brother House in 2002 played, Davina said: "I was sort of thinking 'Oh my God, look she's just lapping it up. She's born for this'."
