The successful CBS sitcom has kept audiences entertained throughout the coronavirus pandemic thanks to its availability on CBS All Access and Netflix. Unfortunately, rewatching some classic episodes of The Big Bang Theory has unearthed some huge plot holes from season to season.

The Big Bang Theory concluded its impressive 12-year run last year following the departure of Jim Parsons from his role as Sheldon Cooper.

The super-intelligent yet asocial physicist has become one of the most iconic comedic characters in recent years.

His early years have since been explored in a new prequel series, Young Sheldon, starring Iain Armitage as the science prodigy’s younger self.

New episodes of Young Sheldon are currently on hold due to uncertainty around the ongoing pandemic, but fans have enjoyed catching up on the original series on Netflix.

However, this often has the adverse effect on exposing some embarrassing plot holes most fans missed the first time round.

One perceptive viewer spotted a key line of dialogue from Sheldon in season ten which is contradicted in the very next season.

They took to Reddit when they noticed the mistake in the episode The Cohabitation Experiment.

Redditor Boom3r_Boi posted: “In the episode when Sheldon was moving in with Amy, he said that he was bad at sharing because he skipped preschool.”

In season ten, Sheldon temporarily lives with his girlfriend Amy Farrah Fowler (played by Mayim Bialik) due to a water pipe bursting in her apartment.

The episode served as a hilarious experiment to see if the awkward pair would be willing to live with each other after the period is over.

Due to Sheldon skipping his formative preschool years to pursue more scientific studies at a young age, he admits he never mastered the art of sharing with others.

However, this fan soon realised the brief yet integral insight into Sheldon’s history was directly contradicted in the very next season.

They continued: “But, in the eleventh season, when Leonard, Howard and Raj find out that they have a lot of bitcoin, Sheldon says that he has grudges that go back to preschool.

“This doesn’t make sense because Sheldon himself says that he skipped preschool.”

The physicist is infamous for his petty and selfish nature, and it certainly wouldn’t be beyond a middle school-aged Sheldon to develop a rivalry with a younger child.

Most fans would agree this explanation is a little far-fetched though, especially considering the writers’ tendency to mishandle the show’s continuity.

One Big Bang Theory fan replied: “Ohh boy, I love the show, but the writers have a terrible, terrible memory because there are more plot holes than craters in the moon’s surface.”

While another fan noted Raj’s (Kunal Nayyar) infamous tendency for forgetting whether or not he can actually speak Hindi.

Thankfully the sitcom was able to go out with a high last year before messing up the characters’ backstories any further.

The Big Bang Theory seasons 1-12 are available to stream on Netflix.
