Ben Affleck claims shocking death of main character in new Netflix movie Triple Frontier was HIS idea

BEN Affleck claims the shock death in Netflix film Triple Frontier was HIS idea.

Ben stars as an ex special forces operative on a mission to steal a drug lord's fortune and shares the screen with Star Wars actor Oscar Isaac.

WARNING: Spoilers for Triple Frontier follow below.

He convinced director JC Chandor to change the script and kill off his character, struggling alcoholic Tom 'Redfly' Davis, in the midst of their heist, telling movie site Collider: "I wanted to see somebody actually pay a price for what happened."

In a shocking twist, Redfly dies suddenly after he's shot in the head by a local villager – leaving the rest of his team heartbroken.

Ben continued: "It highlights the risk to people's lives. It focuses on the mortality question and theme, which I think is really interesting," with the director adding: "He suggested it. He said, 'Would you ever be willing to do that?' I had actually moved it to a different character than the one that I originally read.

"I won’t get into who, but it was to another character and it was very secondary. Ben said, 'Would you ever be willing to, if I got the studio to agree to it, to allow that to be me?'"

Set in South America, Ben's new movie is an action-adventure crime flick that sees five military veteran friends reunite to rob a cartel.

But the events take an unexpected turn when the helicopter they're travelling in crashes and they get into a fight with local village who try to steal the cash.

Ben's character Redfly shoots a couple of unarmed villagers – and one follows him to get revenge for his family's deaths.

Ben flexes plenty of muscle in the movie but recently displayed his striking weight loss out and about in Los Angeles.

The 46-year-old actor was barely recognisable as he walked around Los Angeles dressed in tracksuit bottoms, a grey hoodie, sunglasses and a beanie hat pulled over his ears.

The Hollywood star split with Lindsay Shookus last summer and headed into rehab when ex wife Jennifer Garner staged an intervention.

He was spotted with the TV producer at a Starbucks and a source told ET: "They are hanging out again. They have been for over a month now."
