BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans demand couple returns to replace Nigel Harman

Strictly: Nigel Harman teases ‘tearjerking’ dance routine

Actor Nigel Harman will not be appearing on Strictly Come Dancing this evening after sustaining an injury. The 50-year-old was set to perform the Charleston to Step In Time from Disney’s Mary Poppins with his partner Katya Jones.

His shock exit leaves just four celebrities in the BBC competition: Annabel Croft, Layton Williams, Bobby Brazier and Ellie Leach. Nigel announced he was pulling out of the show hours ahead of it airing on BBC One.

A BBC spokesperson confirmed: “Unfortunately Nigel has sustained an injury which means he is unable to perform in tonight’s show and has had to withdraw from Strictly.”

Fans have been flocking to social media following the gutting announcement, with many calling for a former contestant to replace him on the show. The person they want to see return is broadcaster Angela Scanlon who left the show last weekend.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one Strictly fan penned: “My solution is to bring back Angela and Carlos.”

A second shared: “Can Angela Scanlon learn a dance in three and a half hours, please? come back, queen.”

A third fumed: “With Nigel Harman having to retire from #StrictlyComeDancing with an injury, can I be one of the first to say that he HAS to come back for 2024’s Christmas Special? And bring back Angela Scanlon next week, she was robbed from the quarters with a very dodgy decision.”

Emma shared: “Gutted that Nigel Harman’s injured and so out of #Strictly. Wish they’d had an Argentine tango earlier. I wanted to see him do that. Only Ellie left of my favourites with Angela and Carlos out.”

Angela and her partner Carlos Gu were voted out last weekend after they landed themselves in the dreaded dance-off.

She broke down on It Takes Two last week as she discussed her exit from the BBC dancing show.

As she sobbed, Carlos said: “I am so lucky to have met her in my life, we are not only physically connected, I feel like we are soulmates.”

The pro dancer added: “I’m never really this sad, I usually laugh all the time… But we had a ball and we had the greatest time in my life. Every single second in the training was such joy and such a laugh.”

Soap star Ellie is the current favourite to win this year’s Strictly with her dance partner Vito Coppola.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Coronation Street fans will soon be celebrating Ellie Leach’s success on the dancefloor if the latest odds are anything to go by. She’s fast becoming a shoo-in for this year’s Glitterball Trophy.”

Despite being the favourite, she is yet to score 40 points from the judges as Craig Revel Horwood has not given anyone a 10 this year yet.

Strictly Come Dancing’s results show airs on Sunday evening on BBC One.
