'Avengers: Endgame': Mark Ruffalo Reveals He Got a Fake Dummy Script
Mark Ruffalo has earned a reputation for being loose-lipped when it comes to sharing movie spoilers. The directors of Avengers: Endgame knew they couldn’t be too careful with this movie, so they took extra steps to throw Ruffalo off. It worked.
Russo brothers weren’t taking any chances
If you recall, Ruffalo once committed a rather huge oops when he accidentally live streamed the first 10 minutes of Thor: Ragnarok.
It’s been rumored that Spider-Man star Tom Holland didn’t get any of the script, but the directors, the Russo brothers, threw Ruffalo off in a big way for Avengers: Endgame. During an interview with ET at the Endgame premiere on Monday, Ruffalo explained that they majorly threw him off with a fake script!
He shared: “I got a script, but it was a dummy,” adding, “There were scenes in there that I thought we were shooting that nobody ever shot.”
Anthony Russo further explained that taking these measures also protects the actors from having to worry about accidentally slipping up, noting: “It’s like doing them a favor, because it’s hard to keep secrets, it’s hard to keep your mouth closed.”
He added: “We spend all day, every day, doing this for like, the past couple years. So it’s hard not to talk about what you spend all your time doing. It’s a little bit of a mercy we give them by not giving them too much information.”
Ruffalo wanted the fun fan experience
Going into the premiere blind about the movie definitely was exciting for Ruffalo, as he shared, “I’ve been dying to see it. We had a chance to see it yesterday, but I held off because I want to see it with an audience, I want to be in that experience with you guys. Yeah, that’s when it really means something.”
This isn’t the first time Ruffalo has been clueless, as he told Yahoo! this month that he didn’t know if The Hulk survived Avengers: Infinity War until he watched the movie because he filmed an alternate ending.
He explained: “I didn’t know until I saw the movie. For one take, I did disappear, and then the other one I didn’t. I was pretty sure it was gonna be me. It’s like Survivor. It’s like, who’s gonna get kicked off the island? And I probably should’ve… It’s like Project Runway for leakers.”
Ruffalo gave an emotional speech
Following the Avengers: Endgame premiere, the cast gathered on stage to give some remarks and it was all around emotional.
Ruffalo noted: “Aww, man. Wow, it’s been an amazing ride. So moving. I love all of you guys so much. I’m so proud to be part of all this with you. It’s been the trip of a lifetime.” He told the Russo brothers: “What you guys did up there tonight was just beautiful.”
Then he shared this sentiment with his costars: “You guys
are my brother and sister Avengers. I love you so much. And I can’t wait to
make the next movie with you.”
