Andrea Bocelli is an Italian opera singer, songwriter and record producer from Lajatico, Italy.
The 61-year-old began singing as a young boy and learnt to play numerous instruments when growing up
As a young boy, he had numerous problems with his sight and was eventually diagnosed with congenital glaucoma.
After being hit by a football at age 12, Bocelli suffered a brain haemorrhage.
Sadly, Bocelli was diagnosed with traumatic glaucoma following the football accident, which left him permanently blind.
After finishing high school in 1980, he studied at law at the University of Pisa and spent one year as a court-appointed lawyer.
His career began in 1992 after he auditioned for Italian rock star Zucchero to make a demo tape, which would then be seen to Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti.

Zucchero managed to convince Pavarotti to record the entire song with Bocelli, which became a European hit.
In 1998, Bocelli made his debut in a major operatic role in 1998 when he plays Rodolfo in a production of La bohème at the Teatro Comunale in Cagliari.
Later that year, he performed at the White House for then US President Bill Clinton.
In December 2017, Bocelli collaborated with pop sensation Ed Sheeran on ‘Perfect Symphony’, where the duo sang in both English and Italian.
He also sang at Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s wedding in October 2018 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.
In 2016, a film titled The Music of Silence, about the Italian tenor’s life was made by Oscar nominee Michael Radford.
In the film, Bocelli was portrayed by Game of Thrones star Toby Sebastian.
Throughout his career, he has sold 15 solo studio albums, three greatest hits albums, nine complete operas and has sold 90 million records worldwide according to Billboard.
The opera singer was married to his first Enrica Cenzatti, who he met singing at piano bars in his early career.
Together they had two children, Amos and Matteo.

The couple separated in 2002 and soon after, Bocelli met his second wife and manager, Veronica Berti.
In 2011, Bocelli and Bertiannounced they were expecting their first child together.
Bocelli will appear on the Michael McIntyre show tonight and will give a show-stopping performance.
The synopsis for tonight’s episode reads: “This week, British pop royalty Ellie Goulding hands Michael her phone in Send To All.
“There is a sensational performance from the world’s most beloved tenor, Andrea Bocelli, and two brothers from Coventry visit a relaxing spa but get the shock of their lives when they find themselves on stage at the London Palladium as they become the Unexpected Stars of the Show.”
