AJ Pritchard still ‘likely’ to take part on I’m a Celeb after Covid infection

AJ Pritchard may not have had his I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! hopes dashed following reports on Saturday that the former Strictly Come Dancing star had tested positive for coronavirus.

The professional dancer, 26, should still be heading to Gwyrch castle in Abergele Wales to compete on this year's series.

A show source told the Mirror: "AJ has had a positive test but is not in hospital or seriously ill and instead has been isolating in a cottage in Wales which is the correct thing to do. All the contestants have been isolating now for some time and will not meet until the end of the week with the show likely to start filming late on Friday or early Saturday.

"He will need to provide several negative tests before he is allowed anywhere near the camp but time is on his side. ITV always takes health and safety seriously and with the coronavirus they won't take any chances.

"All the signs are that AJ is still likely to be taking part in the series and the show will kick off as planned with ten contestants going in."

AJ, who is reportedly set to bank £50,000 from the show, had his place on the programme thrown into jeopardy, when it was reported he had tested positive for coronavirus.

A source told The Sun on Saturday: "This is the last thing anyone wanted.

"It has been a shock to AJ as he’s been feeling fine and following the precautions.

"Everyone is on tenterhooks. Like the other contestants AJ had a routine Covid test, which came back positive.

The insider added to The Sun: "The ITV production team have gone to incredible lengths all year to make sure everything is carried out safely and with as minimal risk to the cast and crew as possible.

"There is little room for error. If several stars are struck down, particularly one of the older ones, then it would throw the whole show into jeopardy and be very problematic."
