AJ Pritchard signs up for I'm A Celeb seven months after quitting Strictly Come Dancing

STRICTLY Come Dancing star AJ Pritchard has signed up for this year's series of I'm A Celebrity.

The Sun first revealed the 25-year-old dancer was in talks to join the ITV show, which is being filmed in the UK for the first time, back in April.

His appearance on I'm A Celeb will be his first big TV project since he left Strictly seven months ago.

The show, which is being filmed outside Australia for the first time – at Gwrych Castle in Wales, is expected to return to our screens in November.

A source told the Mail: "AJ is really excited – he can't wait to get going and for the show to start.

"It was always his aim to do more TV work after leaving Strictly and there's no bigger challenge than I'm A Celeb."

The insider added that his only regret was being unable to appear on the show with his Love Island star brother Curtis.

A source told The Sun: "AJ has a huge fanbase from Strictly and he’s really grateful for the opportunity it afforded him but he is keen to show people that there is a lot more to him.

“Bosses think he would be a great addition to the cast and it always helps to secure a heartthrob as it draws in much-needed younger viewers.”

Fast-thinking bookies have already put AJ odds of winning the show, which is being filmed in Wales this year, at 8-1.

A spokesperson for Coral said: “I’m A Celeb is unlikely to be a waltz for AJ. However, we think he will be popular with the public and might even have a great chance of going all the way on the show."

It comes after AJ claimed that he wanted to emulate the success of the show’s hosts Ant and Dec with Curtis, 24.

He told The Sun: “We would love to be that presenting duo, like them.

"We want to bring our brand,  that all-singing, all-dancing Saturday night style of family entertainment, a bit like Bruce Forsyth."
