'90 Day Fiancé': Jenny Defends Sumit's Actions Amid Departure From India
90 Day Fiancé couple Sumit and Jenny Slatten just went through their biggest upheaval on the show so far. Sumit shocked fans and Jenny both when he was married. Fans found out ahead of Jenny on the show, and when she did find out, it was a disaster.
Sumit was hustled away by his family leaving Slatten scared and alone in her and Sumit’s apartment in India. Since then, Sumit has been reunited with Jenny, but it’s become clear that they have some serious hurdles to overcome. For starters, Jenny has to return to the U.S. Surprisingly enough, she’s been defending Sumit’s actions since revealing that she’s planning to return home.

Sumit’s secret marriage isn’t the first lie he’s told Jenny Slatten. The 90 Day Fiancé star previously catfished the U.S.-based grandmother. The two originally met on Facebook, where Sumit pretended to be a male model named Michael Jones. Eventually, they developed feelings for one another, and Sumit came clean. In a sign of things to come, Slatten forgave him.
Sumit dropped an even bigger lie on Slatten — or rather, his parents and in-laws did. Sumit was confronted by his wife’s father at his apartment with Slatten. This was the first time Slatten heard about Sumit’s wife on the show, and things got intense quickly.
Slatten told producers, “What happened was worse than anything I could have ever imagined. It’s like you’re having a nightmare and you wake up and it’s true. That’s what it felt like.”
The 90 Day Fiancé star said Sumit squared off against his relatives, looking ready to fight. Eventually, they removed him from the apartment and threatened Jenny Slatten with possible legal ramifications for both Sumit and herself.

In a video chat with her daughter, Christina, Jenny Slatten revealed that Sumit was married two years ago. She told Christina, “This is why he has been keeping all of this a secret from his parents. His parents entered him into an arranged marriage… He doesn’t want to be married to her. He never wanted to be married to her.”
“I was dating Jenny when my parents set up an arranged marriage, and I barely knew the girl before I married her,” Sumit told the camera.
Now, it seems as if Slatten’s stay in India may be cut short. With Sumit married, it seems as if there’s no way Slatten will be able to marry Sumit and upgrade her visa before time runs out. What’s more, it’s unclear if she would even want to marry Sumit at the moment.
Sumit revealed to producers that after he was cornered and taken away, he was held by his family for five days, and denied contact with Slatten.

Sumit revealed that he himself is not happy with his arranged marriage, and didn’t really want it to happen in the first place. In fact, it sounds as if he was pressured into the marriage.
“In other countries, it’s about couples. They love each other, they get married. It’s not the arranged marriage. If they’re not happy and feel the marriage is not going good, they can get separated and divorced… I just want separation,” explained Sumit.
“No one should force me into a marriage… It’s my decision. I want to be
Later, Slatten urged viewers to forgive Sumit for his lie. “Please, everyone know it’s not his fault. He’s a good guy,” she said.
