7 Shows Like 'Mindhunter' Because You Want More Dark, Twisty Nightmares

By now, you’ve had time to binge all of Mindhunter season two on Netflix. Hell, maybe you were able to throw in a re-binge of season one. Once it was over, you may have even hit up YouTube to compare the creepy serial killer interviews performed by Holden (Jonathan Groff) and co. with the real deal. If you haven’t, here’s something you’ve really gotta see:

The moral of the story is that you’ve run out of Mindhunter content. But don’t worry, there are more than enough twisty murder sagas out there to hold you over until season three (please, Netflix, just don’t let it take two years).

Criminal Minds

Wanna know what the Behavioral Science Unit is up to now? Criminal Minds began airing in 2005 and is still following the fictional members of an elite FBI unit known as the BAU (Behavioral Analysis Unit), who put everything Holden and Tench discovered into practice. Every episode, the team is flown to a new crime scene, where they use serial killer profiles to catch their unsub (unidentified suspect). Gone are the days of serial killer prison interviews—unless you count the ones they catch—but don’t worry: 300+ episodes of this will teach you more than you ever wanted to know about heinous murderers.

Dexter

If you want to go directly inside the mind of a killer, this Showtime classic is unmissable. Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is a respected blood-spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department and an even better serial killer. Like the serial killers you learn about on Mindhunter, has a strict M.O. and no empathy, but you’re gonna find yourself rooting for him anyway, which is pretty messed up. Maybe just skip the series finale, though…

Broadchurch

Think Holden and Tench are broody and tense? They’ve got nothing on detectives Ellie Miller and Alec Hardy (played by the incredible Olivia Coleman and David Tennant). When the murder of a young boy sends a small British town into a frenzy, Detective Inspector Hardy is sent in to shape up the local police. Meanwhile, Detective Sgt. Miller has to grapple with the fact that someone in her town, someone she knows, is a brutal killer.

Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes

Can’t get enough of those serial killer interviews, though? Well, Netflix released hours of never-before-heard interviews with the infamous Ted Bundy himself. Is that unsettling enough for you?!

Dark

Here’s my elevator pitch for ya: Mindhunter meets Stranger Things. Sold? You should be. The German sci-fi series hit Netflix in 2017 and tells the grisly story of a small town rattled by the disappearance of two young boys…exactly 33 years after another child went missing the same way.

Luther

Think Holden lets the job rub off on him too much? Meet John Luther, another detective with a somewhat creepy “friendship” with a psychopath who helps him solve crimes. And just like Holden, Luther lets his obsession with the criminal psyche and serial killers overshadow everything else in his life. But the best part? The volatile Detective Luther is played by none other than Idris f*cking Elba.

The Following

Would you be a leader of a cult or a follower? Probably a mindless member of the flock, if this Fox series to be believed. In The Following, former FBI agent Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) is brought back in the fold to recapture notorious serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy), who has escaped from prison. Trouble is, Joe has a swarm of followers ready and willing to do his bidding, including kidnapping Joe’s son from his innocent mother. The trouble is, just about anyone could be working against Hardy.
