Yaya Toure tops surprising list of most lethal penalty takers in the Premier League era – The Sun

YAYA TOURE is the best penalty kick taker in the Premier League era.

The former Man City midfielder netted all 11 of his spot-kicks during his eight years in the Premier League.

But while statistically his numbers come out top, the most impressive from the spot may be Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier.

The Saints icon scored 25 of 26 pens for an amazing 96.2 per cent success rate.

Throughout his career, 'Le God' missed just one in 49.  A simply outrageous success rate.

The secret? Le Tissier said: "I stuck it in the corner, and if the keeper went the right way it was hard enough to beat him."

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Mark Crossley is the man who stopped Le Tiss from having a perfect 100 per cent record, along with Toure.

He made a first-half save in the very first Premier League season during the clash at The Dell.

Similarly impressive was former Fulham, Liverpool, Charlton and Spurs star Danny Murphy.

He netted 18 of 19 for a 94.7 per cent success rate.

The only one he missed he then scored on the rebound in a 3-2 win for the Cottagers at Manchester City in 2008.

James Beattie scored 16 of 17 during his time at Blackburn, Southampton, Everton, Stoke and Blackpool for a 94.1 per cent conversion rate.

Defender Julian Dicks spent most of his career at West Ham and had a short stint at Liverpool.

He knocked in 15 of 16 for a 93.8 per cent rate.

These figures are all correct for those players who have taken more than ten penalties.

Toure and Le Tissier's success from the spot highlights Paul Pogba's issues.

The Man Utd star had his one and only effort this season saved in the 1-1 draw against Wolves back in August.
