Watford striker Deeney has no regrets over getting West Ham fans to 'shut up' with provocative celebration

The Watford striker, 30, claimed it was the only way to "shut up" the home fans at the London Stadium.

Deeney charged towards the corner of the pitch after he opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the first half.

He attempted a knee slide before he punched the corner flag and taunted the furious Hammers fans.

One supporter even appeared to launch at a plastic cup at him before he was led back down by the pitch by his team-mates.

West Ham have now vowed to dish out a lifetime ban to the yob that launched the "cup of coffee."

His actions infuriated the fans, but the Hornets star did not apologise after the final whistle.

He said: "Other than the knee slide, where I nearly broke my knee, but people have an opinion on me and my family and that's the only way I can shut them up.

"I get in trouble sometimes, but this one I'm all right."

Watford ended West Ham's winning streak when Gerard Deulofeu doubled their tally in the second half before it ended 2-0.

Speaking on the club's official website, Deeney added: "It was a tough game.

"We were more clinical, more ruthless and it resulted in a great away performance.

"Games like this are ice to win, but it's nothing too serious. We've got Chelsea in a couple of days.

"Everyone's going to enjoy Christmas with their families and then we'll go again."
