Watch Rugby ace Paolo Odogwu sent off for ‘kung fu kicking’ opponent in face during Wasps vs Sale Sharks – The Sun

WASPS winger Paolo Odogwu "kung-fu kicked" his opponent in the face and was shocked to be given a red card.

Odogwu was given his marching orders against Sale Sharks after his boot caught Rohan Van Rensburg in the face as he collected a high ball.

Sale were leading 25-18 with little over a minute left on the clock when the stomach churning incident occurred.

Sharks launched a ball high up the pitch and it looked like a routine take for Odogwu on first viewing.

But after cameras showed blood pouring from Van Rensburg's chin, replays showed a more sinister intent.

Odogwu leapt into the air with bent legs but appeared to thrust his leg out to ensure it connected with Van Rensburg's face on his way down.

The 22-year-old was given his marching orders after a TMO review but appeared surprised by the decision.

He opened his mouth in shock as ref Tom Foley showed him the red before laughing as he walked off the pitch.

Van Rensburg remained conscious after the blow with players from both teams checking on him.

But fans online branded the kick "awful and dreadful" with some referring to it as a "kung fu kick".

Despite the evidence and the dismissal, Wasps director of rugby Dai Young told the BBC he did not think the kick was intentional.
