Tyson Fury urges Deontay Wilder to agree trilogy fight before end of 2020

Tyson Fury has urged Deontay Wilder to agree to a trilogy fight before the end of the year.

The WBC champion, who hopes to defeat Wilder before facing Anthony Joshua in an undisputed heavyweight title fight in 2021, insists he will not “wait forever” and plans to fight in December regardless of the American’s participation.

The pair had initially been scheduled to rematch in the second half of this year, after Fury’s spectacular knockout victory last February, before the sporting world ground to a halt due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Fury tweeted: “Where you at mush? The clock is ticking!! I’m not gonna wait forever!!! There are other bums in the division that I want to eat for breakfast.”

Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, insists the ‘Gypsy King’ will fight this year, be it against Wilder or behind closed doors in the UK.

“Tyson is the No 1 attraction in world boxing at the moment,” Warren said. “By Christmas he will have been kept inactive for 10 months since his spectacular WBC championship victory over Wilder. That can’t go on indefinitely.

“We have just had a long talk and he’s made it clear that he won’t wait any longer than that to box again… He’s at his best physically and mentally when he’s busy as a boxer and it’s my responsibility to help keep him in the great shape he is now on both fronts.

“By hook or by crook he will fight in December. If not Wilder then a decent opponent behind closed doors in the UK.”

Fury and Wilder are contractually obligated to meet for a third time, with Fury’s US promoter, Bob Arum, originally planning to put on the blockbuster at a stadium in Las Vegas on 19 December.

However, as the boxing world struggles to agree purses with fighters due to a lack of income from ticket sales, it’s likely that the bout will again have to be delayed until a point where spectators are allowed to be in attendance in some form.
