Tom Brady "Embarrassed" By His Salary Compared To Other Quarterbacks [Rumor]

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is currently scheduled to hit the free agent market for the first time in his career.

And if the Patriots want to retain the three-time NFL MVP, they better be willing to pay him market value, because Brady might not take another giant hometown discount this time around.

According to Gary Tanguay of NBC Sports Boston, the six-time Super Bowl champion is “embarrassed” about the fact that many quarterbacks make more money. Tanguay said Brady has been frustrated about it since last summer.

Though Brady saw a noticeable dip in his production this year, the man is the most accomplished quarterback in history. At the very least, his salary should rank somewhere in the top five or seven.

But according to Spotrac.com, Brady only placed 10th in total cash ($23 million) among quarterbacks in 2019. Arizona Cardinals rookie Kyler Murray (approx. $24 million) and less productive quarterbacks like Kirk Cousins ($28 million),  Nick Foles ($30.5 million) made more than Brady in 2019.

Patriots head coach and acting GM Bill Belichick has never been afraid to move on from ageing talents, especially when he believes they’re entering their twilight years. But whether or not he’s planning to move on from the ultimate franchise icon — who turns 43 in August — remains to be seen.

One surely would have expected Brady and the Patriots to reach a deal last offseason to ensure he finishes his career in Foxborough. But Brady and Belichick have a lot of negotiating to do as they try to determine the best course of action.

The Patriots selected Jarrett Stidham in the fourth round of last year’s draft, but whether or not Belichick thinks he’s ready to start remains to be seen. If the Pats move on from Brady, there will be no shortage of potential replacements on the free agent or trade market — including Cam Newton, Philip Rivers, Andy Dalton and Jameis Winston.
