Texas Rangers at Baltimore Orioles: Projected Starting Pitchers

LHP Kolby Allard vs. LHP John Means

Allard has been fantastic over his last two starts with the Rangers, having allowed a total of two earned runs over 12 innings with 12 strikeouts and a single walk to pick up back-to-back victories. The starts came against the Chicago White Sox and Seattle Mariners, but he’ll face similarly poor competition once again against the Orioles as the schedule has aligned in his favor.

Means owns a 3.55 ERA through 22 starts and 26 total appearances, spanning 124 1/3 innings. He strikes out better than three times as many hitters as he walks, but he’s benefiting from a .260 opponent BABIP and a suppressed home run rate despite giving up fly balls on 49.9 percent of balls in play. Opponents make hard contact just 28.5 percent of the time. He has been best at home on the season, but his luck has caught up to him with a 5.62 ERA in the second half. Last outing: Means went seven innings for the win in a second straight start, allowing just two earned runs with four K’s and no walks.

Texas Rangers at Baltimore Orioles:Picks and Betting Tips

Moneyline: Back the favored Orioles at -115. They’re the healthier of the two teams right now, and while their full lineup still doesn’t impress, they have been the slightly better of the clubs of late.

Run line: Stay away from the run line based on the Rangers’ strong record but their chalky-190 odds to cover +1.5. The Orioles are wildly unreliable on the other side, despite decent value at +160.

Over/under: Take the UNDER (9.5, -115). Both starters have been better of late and they should be able to postpone their respective managers from having to turn to a poor bullpen. Both offenses struggle against lefties.
