"Sunday Night Football" & Game 3 Of NBA Finals Dominate TV Ratings
The Philadelphia Eagles-San Francisco 49ers Sunday Night Football contest and Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Lakers dominated television ratings on Sunday night.
The ratings for NBC’s Sunday Night Football program have consistently hit over 10 million viewers early in the season. Per Dino-Ray Ramos of Deadline, yesterday’s tilt at Levi Stadium drew 11.71 million viewers, and it had an 18-49 demographic rating of 3.5.
Thanks to some late-game heroics by quarterback Carson Wentz and the defense, Philadelphia escaped with a 25-20 victory over the banged-up 49ers, who struggled offensively without starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
Backup Nick Mullens was pulled late in the fourth quarter in favor of C.J. Beathard, who nearly led the 49ers to an improbable comeback. His Hail Mary pass to the end zone on the final play fell incomplete, dropping the 49ers to 2-2.
With the win, the Eagles moved to 1-2-1 on the year, which is good enough for first place in the NFC East division.
Game 3 of the Lakers-Heat series drew 4.08 million viewers, per Ramos, with a 1.5 rating. Despite missing key starters Bam Adebayo and Goran Dragic, Miami pulled off an exciting 115-104 victory to avoid a disastrous 3-0 deficit.
All-Star guard Jimmy Butler tuned in perhaps the greatest playoff performance of his career, finishing with 40 points, 11 rebounds, 13 assists, a pair of blocks and two steals. Rookie Tyler Herro and veteran Kelly Olynyk each tallied 17 points.
Duncan Robinson (13 points) and Jae Crowder (12 points) also reached double-digits for the Heat, who are looking to win their fourth NBA Championship in 14 years.
This week’s Sunday Night Football ratings were down considerably from last week’s showdown between the Green Bay Packers and the New Orleans Saints, which drew a reported 14.4 million viewers.
But overall, the ratings have remained very strong for the NFL in a season like no other.
