Stoke striker Diouf says Potters fans are 'the worst in England' and he is 'openly thinking' about leaving the club

MAME BIRAM DIOUF is reportedly thinking of leaving Stoke in the summer as he reveals Potters fans are the worst in England.

The Senegalese international has endured a frustrating campaign at the bet365 Stadium in the Championship – appearing in just 15 games in all competitions.

Diouf – tied down at Stoke until next summer – has been at the club since 2014, where he joined on a free transfer from German side Hannover 96.

His first year has proven to be his most fruitful season in front of goal for Stoke, where he chipped in with 12 goals in 38 matches to help the club finish ninth in the Premier League.

The Leicester target has yet to hit double figures in a season for the 2011 FA Cup finalists since, and has failed to hit the back of the net this term.

According to So Foot, Diouf is 'openly thinking' about leaving the club having grown tired of 'smashing himself against British defences'.

Speaking to the French news outlet, Diouf said: "They’ve loved me too much here. That’s why I’m sad about the current situation, because Stoke means a lot to me.

"English fans are demanding, but, frankly, our fans are the worst.

"They’re really passionate, but they don’t encourage the players. Even if you barely miss a pass, they tear you to shreds. It’s really hard."

Discussing his role at the club where he has been asked to play as a winger on a number of occasions, Diouf added: "I really tried, but I can’t do it.

"You take me to play as a striker and just after you stick me on the wing. What does that mean?

Stoke have disappointed this campaign following their relegation, as they sit in 15th spot – 14 points off the play-offs.
