Solskjaer advised by Mike Phelan on Man Utd summer transfers with young British players 'who embody United way' wanted

MIKE PHELAN has been advising Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on summer signings.

And the Old Trafford No2 reckons Manchester United need to sign young British players who embody the club’s traditions and ways.

United are ready to raid the transfer market for new stars after a mixed season which saw them sack Jose Mourinho and replace him with Red Devils legend Solskjaer.

The Norwegian got off to a fine start as interim boss before signing a permanent deal.

But United have struggled to perform recently, and were sent crashing out of the Champions League to Barcelona this week.

Changes are needed across the board, and they have been linked with a host of big names including Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann and Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho.

However, Phelan has been advising Solskjaer to buy British instead.

There’s a whole host of new talent coming through the Premier League.

BRILLIANT BRITS

And the likes of Declan Rice, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have all been tipped for moves to the Theatre of Dreams.

Jadon Sancho, who's been ripping up the Bundesliga, has also been linked with a move to the Red Devils.

Solskjaer recently opened up on his plans for the market, saying: “I’ve been speaking to the club.

“We know that we have to be realistic and have a job to be done. There’s no quick fix.

“It’s not like we buy seven players and we’re in the right shape. We have to take it step by step and there’ll be signings made.

“But there also have to be thoughts about the players, have a sit down, a pre-season, I can’t wait for it to come.

“There’ll be some additions, the players have got to come back and know what is expected of them, they’ll take ownership of that.”
