Roman Abramovich makes rare Chelsea appearance fronting Holocaust memorial campaign video

Chelsea owner Abramovich has been keeping a low profile this season while he remains outside of the UK due to visa issues.

But the billionaire Russian joined forces with a string of Chelsea men’s and women’s stars as the club launched a video raising awareness of the horrors of the Holocaust and the dangers of all forms of racism.

It comes as the Premier League club are left facing the prospect of a ban on away supporters in Europe from Uefa after the governing body launched disciplinary charges against them.

Anti-Semitic chants were heard from the Chelsea supporters who travelled out to Hungary for the Europa League clash with Vidi in December.

Abramovich, Eden Hazard, and Cesar Azpilicueta are all seen holding signs with the message #WeRemember ahead of International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27.

It is part of a campaign with the World Jewish Congress, which proud Jew Abramovich has been working closely with for the past three years.

Hazard said: “The Holocaust showed the world what can happen when hatred is allowed to thrive unchecked.”

And Azpilicueta added: “Together, Chelsea FC and the World Jewish Congress are working together to say NO to antisemitism and to give a Red Car to Hate.”

The message continued to be delivered by Chelsea Ladies stars Millie Bright and Hannah Blundell, who made it clear supporters as well as players should be following them.

England star Bright said: “We must make it clear that there is no place for religious, ethnic or national-based-hate both on and off the pitch.”

Blundell added: “That is why we support the We Remember Campaign for International Holocaust Remembrance Day.”

Azpilicueta then finished the appeal with a direct message to Blues fans. He said: “If we all learn from our past, we can build a better future for all.
