Ricky Hatton says Anthony Joshua will need to beef up to take on unpredictable Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder – The Sun

NEXT YEAR, like every other year with Tyson Fury around, will definitely not be boring.

At the start of the week he and Ben Davison were back in my gym for a training session and barely a day later it was revealed they had gone their separate ways.

I must admit to being very surprised because I have sung, and will continue to sing, Ben’s praises and they looked to be right on track for the Wilder rematch.

But you only have to look at how Tyson has gone about his career and his life to see that he is the master of his own destiny and is a very strong-willed person.

Ben will carry on working with top fighters and I’m sure Tyson will spring a few more surprises on us before February 22.

People often love to hate Tyson but he is a very intelligent man, he hasn’t always given that impression but he has always talked his dreams into reality and backed up what he has promised.

The cut around his eye has healed very well and looks good, he looked razor sharp when he was in my gym and he seems to be hitting harder than he was last time.

I watched the Wilder win over Luis Ortiz last month and yes the huge right-hand power is there but I think Tyson is good enough to avoid that two more fights under his belt.

Having shared 12 rounds with Wilder now, Tyson will know him inside out, every feint and flicker.

But you could box 120 rounds with Tyson and he might never do the same thing twice.

AJ barnstormers dried up

I can understand why some of Anthony Joshua’s mainstream or crossover boxing fans would have been disappointed with the style of his Andy Ruiz Jr rematch win.

Especially the ones who went all the way to Saudi Arabia for a sun tan, couldn’t get a pint but got soaking wet watching a terrible fight in the rain!

But most boxing fans will know AJ had to box a very sensible fight to get the win.

I always wanted to put on a show and impress my fans but a fighter’s main job is getting the win, through any way necessary.

And we must be fair to AJ, he has only been in two dull fights, one against Joseph Parker to win the WBO title and then against Ruiz to get all three of his titles back, we should all let him off.

He needed to slim down for speed and movement but for me his best attributes are still his strength and size and we will need to bulk up again if he goes up to face the giant guys like Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder.

But he has a mastermind in his corner in Rob McCracken, overseeing it all, so they don’t need me to tell them they will need to improve on that second Ruiz performance to kick on again.

Top tips for 2020

After seeing him beat one of my lads, Nathan Gorman, I have to say Daniel Dubois looks a very special talent for the next few years.

Nath had a few problems going into that British title fight, that he would never want to use as excuses, but Daniel was blistering and really proved what all the hype was about.

Josh Warrington is another who came of age in 2018-19, steamrolling great champions Lee Selby and Carl Frampton, handling an awkward mandatory in Kid Galahad and scoring a huge homecoming KO in October.

I am desperate, as a fan and a friend, for him to get that Las Vegas trip he dreams of, so his Leeds lads can copy what the Man City boys did for me.

My newest recruit Ibrahim Nadim makes his pro debut on Thursday night at York Hall and we have high hopes for him after an impressive amateur career.

The super-bantamweight has come through the excellent Bury ABC and we don’t want to put too much expectation on his shoulders but he has impressed us all at the gym so far.
