Racing carnage as TWO horses smash violently through wing of final hurdle leaving jockeys sprawled on floor | The Sun

THIS is the terrifying moment TWO horses smash through the wing of the final hurdle and leave the defenceless jockeys sprawled on the floor.

The carnage unfolded in the 2.10 at Sedgefield on Tuesday – in between the first two races on day two of the Grand National Festival.

Rambo T jinked left violently approaching the final fight and carried Blue Fin with it.

Fergus Gregory on the 4-6 fav Rambo T clattered through the plastic wing while Sean Quinlan held on for dear life on 11-8 Blue Fin.

Ultimately gravity won and Quinlan fell to the ground – leaving the path clear for 16-1 It's Maisy to saunter home unchallenged.

Amazingly, 200-1 Bilbao River was the only other finisher in the five-runner race after 40-1 Longstone Cowboy fell earlier.

Punters simply could not believe what they had just seen, with one saying: "Holy s**t."

While another wrote: "This is like when you get the red shell on Mario Kart."

Thankfully, both horses and jockeys were unharmed.

Punters thought it looked like Gregory, who was on the horse in the lead at the time of chaos, would have picked up a ban as a result of what happened.

But the stewards' report determined no riding offence had occurred.

It read: "The interference was found to be accidental and caused by RAMBO T (IRE) jinking sharply left-handed approaching the wing of the hurdle, bumping and badly hampering BLUE FIN (IRE) and causing that gelding to be pushed through the wing, resulting in Quinlan being unseated.

"As such, the Stewards deemed there was no riding offence involved."

Victory for It's Maisy, who could well have traded at the maximum odds of 999-1 on the Betfair Exchange, was worth £4,520.
