Quique Setien lined up for managerial return with Real Betis less than four months after Barcelona sacking

QUIQUE SETIEN is being lined-up for a return to Real Betis less than four months after being sacked by Barcelona, according to reports in Spain.

The Spanish boss, 62, took charge of Betis for two impressive seasons before embarking on his doomed stint at the Nou Camp in January.

Setien replaced Ernesto Valverde at Barcelona but was sacked just seven months later after the humiliating 8-2 Champions League defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich.

But now he could be handed a lifeline, with former Manchester City and West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini struggling at Real Betis.

Pellegrini only took charge of the LaLiga side in the summer, but has led the side to a disastrous start to the 2020-21 season.

Betis have shipped a league-high 23 goals from their 11 games – losing seven of those matches – sitting 16th in the table.

Pellegrini now has just ONE game to save his job, according to reports in Spain – against Osasuna on Sunday.

And Setien – who spent the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons at Betis – is tipped to take over.

Setien led Betis to a Europa League spot in his first-ever season and left a year later – having already been linked with the Barcelona job.

The Spaniard was eventually offered the top job at the Nou Camp – but saw Barcelona crash out of the Champions League in spectacular fashion and throw away the LaLiga title in quick succession.

He was sacked in August – and is now claimed to be suing the club for breach of contract.

Setien is suing Barcelona for failing to compensate him after being given the boot, according to Spanish outlet Marca.

The boss even revealed Barcelona had still not officially told him he has been sacked, over three months later.

Setien told COPE: "Barca has not compensated me, nor has it offered me anything.

"They have not even called me to tell me that I am sacked."
