Packers were so close to getting Aaron Rodgers help

Aaron Rodgers isn’t getting any more help anytime soon.

Discussions between the Green Bay Packers and Houston Texans involving wide receiver Will Fuller broke down as Tuesday’s trade deadline passed.

Though Green Bay was hopeful to give Rodgers a reliable No. 2 receiver for the second half of the season, Green Bay ultimately determined it wasn’t willing to sacrifice future draft picks for Fuller’s short-term help. A former first round pick out of Notre Dame, Fuller, 26, is in the final year of his rookie contract.

Fuller, who was drafted by Houston in 2016, reportedly drew interest from multiple teams, but seemingly wasn’t viewed as enough of a difference-maker to trigger a trade. Fuller also has struggled with injuries in his first four seasons, playing 42 of 64 possible games. In seven games this season, Fuller has 31 catchers for 490 yards and five touchdowns.
