MLB star Mike Trout signs biggest sports contract in history with 12 YEAR, £325million deal… eclipsing Messi and Ronaldo

BASEBALL star Mike Trout has signed the richest sports contract EVER after penning a stunning 12-year deal worth £325MILLION.

There are no opt-outs or clauses in the paperwork, with the 27-year-old staying with the Los Angeles Angels for the next decade.

The massive deal means Trout has now beaten Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez's mark – the boxer signed an 11-fight deal with DAZN worth £276m at the end of last year.

Trout's deal doesn't compare to some of football 's richest contracts, far eclipsing the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Those two, plus the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Neymar and Luis Suarez all earn more than Trout per week, but football clubs never give out contracts as long as the one Trout has earned.

Only Messi comes close, the four-year deal he signed at the end of 2017 earning him a reported £200million.

In fact, apart from Canelo and Messi, the rest of the top ten richest contracts in sport all come from Major League Baseball.

That's because MLB clubs are not afraid of signing their stars to long-term deals.

Bryce Harper, another poster boy of baseball, signed a 13-year contract with the Philadelphia Phillies at the end of last year.

One man has cashed in more than all other stars, however.

Alex Rodriguez, who is dating pop star Jennifer Lopez, has signed TWO of sport's biggest contracts.

In 2000, he signed a mammoth ten-year, £191m contract with the Houston Texans and then in 2008 he signed ANOTHER £208m, ten-year deal with the New York Yankees.

Nice work if you can get it.

Despite their monster contracts, athletes from rival sports shouldn't be too concerned they picked the wrong sport.

According to Forbes' list of the world's richest athletes, the highest earner in the sport is Clayton Kershaw, ranked only at 37.

Baseball stars do not command anywhere near the same endorsement money as footballers, boxers, tennis players and so on.

Floyd Mayweather was again top of the list in 2018, after his mega-fight with Conor McGregor (who ranks fourth) brought in hundreds of millions of dollars.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are second and third, while the likes of LeBron James, who worked under a salary cap in the NBA, and Roger Federer are also in the top ten.
