Messi scores 600th club goal with stunning free-kick to break Liverpool hearts
LIONEL MESSI bagged his 600th Barcelona goal to inflict more pain on unlucky Liverpool in Wednesday's 3-0 victory in the Champions League semi-finals.
And the Argentine did this in incredible fashion, scoring a sensational free-kick to settle the result at Nou Camp.
Messi, 31, incredibly curled it in from a dead ball – seven minutes after doubling the Catalans' lead – leaving helpless Alisson without a chance to make a save.
And that marked an astonishing 600 goals the Argentine maestro has scored in a Barcelona shirt.
It is also his eighth direct free-kick he has bagged in all competitions in the current campaign – reaching such a number in a single season for the first time in his career.
Uncannily, Messi's first ever goal came on the same day, May 1, fourteen years ago.
Messi was narrowly pipped to the 600 club goals landmark by his nemesis Cristiano Ronaldo, 34, when he netted against Inter Milan on Saturday.
But the Portuguese star needed some 120 games more to achieve the feat.
And fans took to Twitter to hail the Barca star.
One wrote: "Messi is by far the best footballer that has ever graced the earth."
While another tweeted: "Thank God we're lucky enough to witness a living legend."
A third said: "The Earth is 4.5 billion years old and you get to be alive at the same time to watch Lionel Messi. "
